Anyone have a "known good" fuel pump relay for '89 W126????

I need one for testing purposes. I have a car that cuts off every now and then, maybe once a week, or once a month. Very intermittent. I will pay for shipping both ways if it does not solve the problem, and if it does, I'll either buy it from you, or ship it back to you(with your postage) and buy a new one..

Anyone have one laying around?? It may take several months to know for sure, but I won't forget about you..

Thanks,
Jay

Pull yours out and pry out the bottom plate/circuit board. You can easily resolder the three largest pins from the relay that is on that board and fix the problem yourself for nothing. Easy easy easy.

Thanks Q..

I should have mentioned that I've already done that. Funny thing is, I re-soldered it, and the problem went away for something like 6 months. Now, it has done it again twice in the last month.. Just driving down the road, and it cuts off. When you stop it starts right back, and goes for who knows how long???

It's not the fuel pump. It was replaced on Saturday, and the problem occured again on Sunday. It has never occured while I was driving, but I don't drive the car often..

My wife drove about 75 miles today with no problem????

Double check those solder joints. It's possible that you didn't get enough penetration down into the hole and your resolder has failed too. Those relays can sink a lot of heat, so it will take a bit to get them up to temperature. Don't over heat the board though. Start heating the pin and then move it down to meet up with the board as you add fresh solder. If you didn't use fresh solder (acid flux in the core is the key to cleaning the joint), that could be it too.

Never use acid flux solder on electronic components! That may be OK for water pipes but not your relay.

It was high quality solder for electronic components. I pulled the relay, and took another look.. Resoldered all of the joints again. Who knows, I may be barking up the wrong tree??? That's why I'm looking for one that someone knows is good. I've been soldering electronic components for about 35 years or so I feel confident that I did a good job..

Well here we go again..

6 months later.. This friggin' car has started it's thing where it cuts off again.. Driving down the road 50 mph... cuts off.. Pull to the side.. Starts right back, and goes for who knows how long???? Maybe a month, maybe an hour???

I'm pretty much at the end of my rope with this car. I've easily spent 2000 dollars just on parts to make this a very nice driveable car, but this one problem ( aside fron the poor air conditioning) still comes back. I've re-soldered and visually inspected the fuel pump relay, but I'm to the point that I'm not going to spend another 100+ dollars on a part that MIGHT fix this problem. ( the fuel pump is brand new, so are like a kazillion other parts)

It's been to the dealer, and an indy, but the problem never occured, and of course they can't fix it if it doesn't happen with some regularity.

I'm to the point where I intend to do an "ABS check" for the imaginary dog.. Hope you aren't the poor soul that's riding my ass.. BTW Brakes are new at all corners...

Anyone have a fuel pump relay I can try???

If you are in Greensboro NC.. Don't tailgate a gold 300SEL

I've seen this before and the problem turned out to be the ignition rotor

Tell me more. Do you mean the actual ignition switch, where the key plugs in is possibly making poor contact?? I guess that certainly sounds logical..
