Wanted to say thanks for the help.

Hello,

I haven't really posted much in the past two years, but I've been a longtime lurker and search hound. My 1994 E320 wagon has been declared dead. The wiring harness was the straw that broke it, as reverse was gone and the water pump was dead as well before all of the vital electronics goofed up.

I'm 20 and in college, and I really can't afford to deal with a used car's problems, even on any make. So I've been brought to the point of letting the government scrap my beloved W124 so I can get twice its value on a trade-in for a new car with a warranty.

So, I guess I just wanted to say so long and thanks for all the help. From diagnostics to general questions to the invaluable arthur dalton code reader, you guys rock.

This site has been an invaluable resource in two years of far from trouble free ownership.

Thank you to all of you guys and gals here.
-Chris

Don't ask me, I'm about to be a Subaru guy

Is it eligible? The car needs to have an EPA of <= 18 MPG.

It is. As is the Convert.

If it were the E320 Sedan or Coupe, it would not.

They drew a fine line on the '94/104 E class .

Owned it for more than a year?

Best of luck, Subaru aren't bad cars for the money.

Not to hijack this thread, but I think they really blew it when they set the cut-off date for these "clunkers". A lot of '85 cars get good mileage, but my '78 Volare isn't eligible even though it has been on the road and registered for 30 years. Idiots.

Trade in your clunker unless it's a clunker. Stoopid.

The M103 powered 300E's all qualify for the clunker program because the gov claims they only get 17mpg. Yeah right.....I've seen over 26 in mine on the highway, and average about 20-21.

They do actually crush the car, so is it possible to strip/snag a bunch of parts off of it prior to the crusher/trade in? I assume they take most anything since it will be crushed....I'd try stripping all good parts off it to sell!

My car misses eligibility by 23 days, as I bought it in late November last year.....not that I would ever send it to the crusher! That, and I would never buy a *new* car anyways. All the rebate does is absorb some of the initial "drive it off the lot" depreciation. Perhaps a deal to some, but not to me....I'll let the first owner(s) of my cars eat all the depreciation first.

I really didn't want them to crush Herr Nerdwagen. But I'll have to do it. I have a trunk ornament, some sweet new door mats, a Mercedes-Benz toolkit, and a neat first aid kit. Schwag. I also cut out one of the back seatbelts and have used it.. to suspend my pants. MB seatbelt + old belt buckle = the most expensive pants suspension device ever.

Yeah, I NEVER got anywhere near the 15 mpg they think I should have in the city. My gain I guess.. Even in its last weekend as a self-propelled shipping container loaded down with several hundred pounds of stuff and two people I still averaged 22 miles per gallon.

Ah well. The M104 will scream one last time on the car's last run to the Subaru dealer.

tinypanzer: Yeah. There's the government for you...

I'd see what that motor has left in it....dozens and dozens of donuts and 0-60 tests come to mind......does it need to be running when they get it?
