All indicator dash lights on in my 560sl

Hi! I have a 1986 560sl and the other night I let a friend, who happens to love racing their own car, drive mine and see how peppy my car is. Well they floored it on the highway. I have never treated my baby like that. He said it got to the red line when all the lights on the dash came on (battery, oil, gas, abs brakes, all). The car still drove and drives fine but the lights will not shut off even after I turned the car and let it sit over night. Any ideas on what happened to my baby? Is this big trouble?

Thank you!

I believe that means the Alternator is no longer charging. Get a DMM and check it out. Measuring voltage on the battery while off and engine started will tell you if thats the culprit. It should be obvious.

There is nothing wrong with flooring it on the freeway every now and again. It is actually good once in a while because it gets rid of any excess carbon buildup on the pistons. Classic Italian tuneup :)

hows the serpentine belt....check the alternator, the loss of voltage would cause the lights to come on if the components arent getting the required voltage.....

Thank you both. I am feeling much better! I will have someone check the voltage. Does something need to be done to make the lights go off?

Thank you!

no the lights will turn off on their own....they were on simply because those components were not getting enough voltage to run efficiently..... if they dont go out, and you are getting a charge the way i always reset my computers on the old cars with obd1 was disconnect the battery and touch the 2 leads in the car together(negative and positive wires)

Thank you again IVIuzzy. I hope it is as simple as you make it. :)

You guys are awesome! Thank you for the great info. It turned out the alternator belt was missing. Bought a new alternator belt and it was as simple as that. Replaced all other belts too while we were at it. Thank you! I just love this formum.
