300TE Heater Issue

Anyone heard of this? My 1990 300TE, put in a new heater blower motor this past March. Worked great for awhile but now works intermitently...but it's not the blower motor (which was shot to begin with to be sure). Sometimes the blower motor works fine and then after shutting the car off and then restarting the car the damn blower motor wont kick in...my local MB person says there is this resistor under the glove compartment for the fan.....I looked this part up and it's like $250!!!
Can this be? Anybody had this experience?
