Emergency w126 wheel question
Please excuse me for posting this in the wrong forum, it is also posted in the Wheel & Tire forum, but I really need a fast response.
I have a 420SEL with 16x8 15 hole wheels from a 91 SL with 15mm spacers from H&R. I just removed a wheels to find the lip of the spacer broken off in the wheel. After I got the lip out of the wheel I put the wheel, without the spacer back on the car, it spins fine so i took it on a 1/2 mile low speed test drive without incident. The tie rod end is very close but does not touch the wheel. Can i go without the spacers or is there going to be a problem at higher speeds. Any replys will be appreciated since I am currently stranded. |

The determination will come at lock to lock. IF you turn the wheel to the lock in the right and left directions and it doesn't scrub, I would feel fine with it.
Be sure that the lug bolts arent too long...You should stick them inside the wheel and make sure they don't stick out too much. IF they do, you could damage the parking brakes in the rear.

The R129 wheels are only a problem fit for the W126 sedans in the rear. When I checked, there wasn't any contact between the front tire and car with the car on jacks. Might be a different situation with the car on the ground or with the suspension more compressed.

Thank you gentlemen.
There must have been some THC left in my system from 20 years ago because when I turn stop to stop it does rub. Luckily I was able to find a 15" 15 hole for a temp fix. Thanks again for your help. |

There are adjustable bump stops at the pitman and idler arms. I don't think these bump stops have anything to do with wheel alignment. You might be able to set them so the 16" wheels don't rub.
