Help with blower

I've just purchased a 88 300se. I need some advice on the blower. The blower will only work with the ignition switch in the run position, without the car on. Once the car is started, the blower will not work. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Does it do this when the engine is cold as well as warmed up? Mine does
the same thing sometimes but the coolant is warm so I'll to look at that.
I don't know what it means but nevertheless...I've been chasing up the blower motor resistor tree but I'm not sure. I put a new/used blower motor in my 90 300TE and it worked fine for 8 months...now it has displayed the reluctance to engage its' duty. Although, on occasion, it will fire right up and act like somebody...but now that I think about it, it is always when the climate control was left on (in hope that it would work) when the car was shut off and then upon restart the blower would come back on, sounding just fine...as if a miracle....then the next stop/start time...nothing!! It's still happening so stay in touch on this one....

The blower and climate controll will both work fine as long as the car isn't running, and the ignition switch is in the run postion. If the car has been warmed up, it will turn out heat, if you turn the engine off, and the switch on.
I would have to guess that means that the blower circuit itself is okay, but the line side dies after the engine starts. I don't have a print to check to see what would make those conditions happen.
If someone has had this problem before, or has a print, I'd like to hear from them.

cliffmac, remove the 30-amp strip fuse on the left front shock tower to check for a hairline crack across the fuse.
