Front rotors

Generally, with combined city and highway driving, how many miles should one get on front rotors. Car is a 98 E300D. I am hitting 57K on original rotors and have about 2mm ridge on edge. I know there is a specific measurment, but am I in the range of a new set or can I get up to 80K before the change?
Thank you... rsl007

Stamped on rotor

Greetings RSL,

The minimum thickness of your rotors are stamped into the edge of each rotor. Just off the top of my head I want to say 7.3 is the minimum. Are the pads still the originals? If they are, what is their thickness now?

I replaced second set of front pads at 57,000 miles. Still original rotors. I am going to put new front rotors in. Should have done it when I had the pads off...

Rotors are cheap. For my SEC, they were $51.00 each for ATE Power Disks at the Mercedes Shop. Much less than the dealer. Replace them, don`t even think about turning them. Call the Mercedes Shop.

Check caliper first for brand

Greetings Nick,

I'd check the brand of caliper that MB installed on my car first and match like brands if possible. I installed Balo discs on my wifes 300E and they looked great coming out of the box and have performed well since installation about a month ago. If you want to know if the hardness is different between brands, I can't tell you that info, probably no one else can either unless they're into metalurgy. I do know that the small cross hatched design in my rear disc are still there after almost a thousand miles on them and the Teves pads seem to perform great as compared to the grooved rotors they replaced and the bare minimum pads that still remained. Balo does make a great disc from a users point of view.
