89 260e cranks won't start
I drove the car home from Thanksgiving dinner, the car was running great as usual. Today it turns over but won't start. It seems to try a little when the key is released.
I've spend several hours reading other threads. so far I have checked: spark--good and strong fuel--pump runs and even tried to jump it--still no start fuel filter was changed about 15000 miles ago Thinking it may be fuel I tried starting fluid -- still no start cps--818 Ohms cold (cant get it hot) ovp relay--New 90 days ago (put the old one back in-still no start) Plugs, wires, cap & rotor only 3000 old What am i missing? The car only has 122000 miles. I'm suppost to take my son back to college tomorrow. What should i look at next? Thanks in advance Bob |

no start 190e 1989 2.6
I have been having the same problems with my car which i believe is the same motor as yours-2.6 liter 6 cylinders. What I have been advised to do is to disconnect the fuel relay and spray ether into the meter plate-this will eliminate fuel delivery and put it into a purely mechanical mode to keep the matter as simple as possible. One can also disconnect the EHA valve to eliminate all electronics from what I have read. You may want to try to crank the motor and check the voltage of the CPS and the ground which I myself have not done yet. I cannot help you much as I am not an expert. My approach is to think from point of view of spark, fuel, air obviously with timing correct. I have have read about vaccum leaks as well which ties into air.

If It seems everything is correct. Do give the air plate and the bore bottom a good blast of carb cleaner to clean the throttle plate at the bottom .there should not a any oil at the bottom visible at wide open throttle position. pull plugs and re-clean. clean pins and re insert fuel and OVP relay.
once i had a similar situation ,the last one did the trick but that was due to non use for a extended period. mak |
