radiator removal

Wanting to check on a 190e with the 6 cylinder motor. To pull the radiator out the front bumper is having to come off? I was sure of the brace across the top having to be removed. Needing to have a tank gasket replaced.

Huh? Front bumper removal? Top brace?? "Tank gasket"???

I admit that I've never worked on a 190E, But all of these sound pretty strange to me!

Just responding to bump this question, it's got me kinda curious.

ERRRRRRR (?)

'Should not have to remove bumper to get Radiator out.

I assume you are talking about the "Gasket" (Rubber) between the PLASTIC
tank and the Body of the Aluminum radiator?

Good Luck !

Usually the little Aluminum tabs on the Radiator (that hold the Gasket TIGHT)
suffer from HOT to COLD cycles (Over Years of use) and are BRITTLE.
It takes a special machine to ReCrimp the Aluminum Tabs and usually 5-10
don't make it through the process.AND as a result the Radiator leaks.

To service any part of the front of the M103 in a W201, the radiator support and the radiator/condensor/horn mount have to be removed. That's the reason the radiator support is bolted in, rather than spot welded like on the M102 engine cars.

Things looked pretty tight up front there! I was hoping not to have to remove the bumper. From what I am hearing from you it doesn't have to be removed. I took the one out on a 87 I owned, but it was the 3.2 and much more room to get it out. I took it to a rad shop here and he fixed it. I never had any problems with it leaking after that.

I have actually removed the radiator from a M103 190e.
Disconnect the radiator hoses. Disconnect the auto cooling pipes.
Remove the fan shroud - it clips in..
Remove the top radiator support - it bolts on - move it out the way.
Lift radiator out.

It takes all of twenty minutes if you are slow.

Caveat - Right Hand drive model.

The hardest job is getting the fan shroud back on properly after putting you new radiator in.

If you want to work on the front of the engine - it's advisable to remove the radiator in case you damage it. - There is no room in the front area of the engine. The M103 was shoehorned into the body.

Wanted to check back for assistance. Today I decided to try the radiator removal. I took the hoses loose after draining the anti-freeze. Yuk! It's the green stuff. I got all the bolts out on top & removed the brace across the top of the radiator. It still was holding some place. I decided to remove the bumper. Well, I found some more bolts to remove then. My issue now is it's loose, but I can't seem to get the fan shroud out. There seems to be so little room. Any, suggestions on possibly how to proceed? I have never in my days seen anything so tight as removing that radiator.
