96 C280 fuel pump

Gentlemen, I own a 1996 C280, which I love. It has developed a small, irritating habit, though. I can be driving and suddenly it will lose power, sputter and die. Restarting is useless, until i put a gallon or two in the tank, then I can crank the engine with no issue.
My question is, could this be the fuel line between the tank and pump, if so, where is it and how hard is it to replace.
I have recently replaced the pump and filter with in the last 6 months and the fuel pump relay with in the last year. It may need a new air mass sensor or meter and could use plugs too, but I don't think this has any bearing on the suddenly loss of power and fuel flow.
Your advice is needed and greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Steve Dale
