Need help or guidance for A/C
When I bought this car a 95' C-280 I was told the ac had a leak.- Didn't go into it much further- I figured I would fix thing as we go along a little at a time. I took the car this morning to a ac- radiator place - They tell me the condensor has a hole in it . Total replacement cost $460.00. They werent sure if the compressor was melting? There is a oil leak so maybe that is what they saw. They suggested doing the condensor & going from there
Can I do this myself - I can tinker a little. Or is this better off to the professional? Thanks |

Wow, they told you a compressor was melting? RUN away and fast.
car-part.com for a good used condenser, if you need even one. I would inject dye in the system and see what is leaking, how badly, and from where. It could be as simple as a reseal or as bad as a locked compressor which would necessitate a full rebuild.

Like you said. Take it a step at a time. I've been an A/C tech for many years. I'm always glad to show the customer the leak. Especially something as obvious as a "hole in the condenser".
