So the '95 pump is different? More assist? Same steering box? More assist would be great around town. I have no complaints how it steers on the highway. Perfect, but I hardly ever travel on the highway. Mostly twisty local roads.

That LS1 in a 190 is incredible. I would love to do it to a 300E. Wish there was a kit...

I see you have both an early W124 and a later one. Do the pumps look at all similar? Mount wise? You have the M104 and I have the M103. I'd love to do this swap if possible. Is it more assisted/lighter?

I haven't compared part numbers, but yes, there is a huge difference.

The early 124 drives a lot like a 123, very heavy and self-centers with lots of force. The late 124 has a lighter feel, possibly more assist but still good feel, and much less fight to hold the wheel off-center. There might be a camber change in the suspension, I don't now, but there's definately a more modern feel to the late 124.

They went to R&P because it was cheaper. Remember that W210 is produced when Mercedes were set to have record return.

As an experiment I removed the steering damper today and I really like the way the steering feels without it. Not so heavy and slow to return. My guess is the guys who have lighter steering/no compaints have worn out steering dampers. Mine was tight.

It always blows me away when I see things like a steering damper, first-aid kit, real zebra wood, ABS, single wiper, airbag, etc on a ~$40K dollar (1988) car with a black plastic steering wheel and shift lever. Everytime I look at the shift lever and see the parting line, I think, WTF?
