126 hood latch repair

On my 85 380SE, the passenger side hood latch isn't locking. A normal person would just replace it, I'm too cheap and it's a benz so I can probably repair it. Has anyone else had any success repairing them?

I have had this problem on my 300SD. It was just sticky and at one point latched itself and the hood wouldn't close. I had to pry the latch back into its "open" or position to accept the hood and then sprayed the crap out of it with lithium grease so that it wouldn't get stuck again. Is yours stuck closed and blocking the hood from latching shut or going all the way down, or stuck open and not latching? Either way prying with a screwdriver and lube will probably solve it.

Thanks tbomachines, it's stuck in the open position, I can get it to move open and closed but it won't latch. I'll try some lube and work it back and forth. It's probably just got some road dirt in there from this past winter.

Been there, done that. Spray it out good with a thin oil such as WD-40 to wash it out, then a day or two later after that has dried out re-spray with lithium grease. Resist the temptation to spray the lith grease first because it will mix with the dirt and make it harder to remove.
