Car Down: Leaking Cold Start Injector Line (From Fuel Distributor to Cold Start Inj.)

Hello,

Today, my roommate and I took on the job of replacing the Idle Control Valve vacuum hose that runs between the engine and the left connection point of the ICV when facing the car from the front of the car.

We pulled off the air cleaner, loosened the wiring harness cradle, removed the ICV, removing the metal fuel line that goes from the fuel distributor to the top of the cold start injector, removed the cold start injector, slid off the old hose which was very tough and not pliable anymore. Then we reassembled in reverse order but did not replace the air cleaner assembly so that we could check for any leaks from the fuel lines first.

Sure enough, just by moving the key to position 2 to prime the fuel pumps, a little bit of fuel dribbled out of the point where the metal fuel line threads onto the cold start injector valve. We tried removing the cleaning this line and the rounded ball heads 4 times, tried oiling the threads with parafin oil since the injector side threads seemed to be a bit gritty.

I cannot drive the car since it is leaking fuel.

We did not want to go overboard with tightening them as we did not want to strip or crack the metal lines. Fuel is only leaking from the injector side, not from where the other end of the line connects to the fuel distributor.

Is there any trick to getting a solid seal? We kept these areas as clean as we could and wrapped the ends with new saran wrap to prevent dirt and dust from gunking up the threads or the rounded head of the metal line ends.

I was thinking about buying a new cold start injector and trying to find a new line as well, $$$....

Ideas? Tips?

Just tried searching through AllPartsExpress and FastLane for the cold start injector. I remember it being easy to find before. It looks like this part may be NLA???

Went to Pull-A-Part today, pulled 3 cold start injectors, 1 beige one, 1 black one and 1 blue one. The blue one seems to be the closest match in terms of tip length. I will try swapping this out in the morning.

Fiddled with the cold start injector and its line today. I got it to a very slow leak, basically, the nut around the connection gets moist.

Does the cold start injector shut off relatively soon?

The thing that scares me is a build-up of vapors under the hood and having that go KA-BOOM!

I have 3 cold start injectors, a BLUE, BLACK, and BEIGE one. These colors are present at the electrical connector for the cold start injector.

What do these different colors mean?
(My guess is that a different volume of fuel is sprayed for each one...)
