Angry Whirlling sound from engin

PLEASE!!!,

Today a strange sound started coming from the hood. Increasing with acceleration and decreasing when I slowdown.

I stopped the climate control (so the AC is out) but still this rather high pitch sound comes on constantly (around 2500 REV and up).

Can it be the turbo?, car is running just fine. to hickups anything.

Made me think of when I drive through a tunner and start hearing the engin revs through the radio...

can U help,

Daniel

Are you hearing the noise through the radio? Turn radio off and listen again.

If the noise goes away, the charging system (alternator) may be giving warning signs of impending doom...

You didn't mention what model you are experiencing this with, but I am assuming it's a diesel.

Post this thread in Diesel discussion as well. It may be a common issue among the "dieselheads" in that forum...

Ain't no air pump :)

Try this for an experiment. Disconnect the vacuum line to the EGR valve and the circulating air safety valve (if it has one - this model may not). The EGR is mounted on the intake manifold and has what looks like a flexible metallic hose attached to it. The circulating air safety valve is mounted on the turbo itself towards the front of the car. Anyway, follow the vacuum lines to the turbo/intake manifold areas and these are the ones you want to try disconnecting and plugging. Try driving the car like this and see if the noise goes away.
