1989 Mercedes 300sel a/c blower problems
I received a great tip from a member about replacing the strip fuse for my a/c blower that is turning on and off at its own convenience. I was told that the fusebox is located next to the main fusebox, and has a black lid that can flip open. I'm pretty sure I found the fusebox, but can't get the lid open. Any help?

Flat screwdriver, but its probably not the fuse if it works at all, and the box should be on the drivers side strut mount and is about as big as a tootsie roll. The one by the fuse box on the firewall kinda is for the Aux fan. I would say check the cabin sniffer motor, or the regulator, or the brushes in the motor itself wear down from always rotating (which they have kits to replace the brushes online).

Hey, quit confusing the guy I was helping!
![]() First off, that strip fuse is for the blower motor, not the aux fan. Secondly, intermittent operation is quite common with these strip fuses because they develop a tiny crack at the thinnest part of the fuse, which, depending on temperature, will either make contact or not. A very typical failure, I have had it happen to me 3 times. While there may be another cause in his case, this is absolutely the first thing he should check. The lid has a tiny latch on the side that has to be pried slightly, then the thing will open right up. Just dig your fingernail or a flat object under the lip of the latch and lift up. Look for corrosion (usually whitish) and/or a crack right in the middle of the fuse where it is thinnest.
