Speedometer cable disconnection

IN order to pull the instrument cluster without destroying the speedometer, one must disconnect the cable at the tranny.

Ive gotten that far, having unscrewed the retaining bolt. How does it now remove? Is it to be yanked, unscrewed, fiddles with until it disconnects?

When I did mine, the cable end had fused to the drive gear housing. It might be a good idea to pull the drive gear from the tranny. One 10mm bolt holds it in. Be careful and do not try to pry the cable end out, or pry the drive gear out or you might break the drive gear housing.
