Quiz

I'd like to test the knowledge of some of the people here.

Question I

You have a 1993 500E (124036 M119 engine) that has erratic idle jumps up and down and is worse in gear.

Question II

You have a 1993 320E (124032 M104 engine) that has oil residue in the cooling water. Witch part of the head gasket is most likely broken??

Question III

You have a 1993 320E (124032 M104 engine) You have just replaced your head gasket and the engine is not running on all six cylinders. What are the two most likely causes???

I have fixed all these problems and will give hints if asked for.

My Guess: You have a camshaft position sensor (or timing sensor) that's either loose or is dying, thereby causing the erratic idle and "in gear" situation.

My Guess: The part which might be broken is an "oil supply" seal galley that is adjacent to the water jacket...since the oil supply would be at a higher pressure to force the oil into the water/coolant galley, which is at a lower pressure.

My Guess: #1.) Plugged/clogged fuel injector -or- #2.) Bad plug wire.

Did I win?

Is there a prize involved here?

Just wondering...I mean, what if somebody gets it all correct?

If a camshaft position sensor fails you get slower take off because of no timing advance. Hint: The problem changes if you move the air mass sensor around.

My Guess: #1.) Plugged/clogged fuel injector -or- #2.) Bad plug wire. Partially correct. It was a bad plug feed wire plastic insulation broken.

Did I win?
Second part later.

The first prize is to be able to diagnose those issues in 1/10 the time it takes the first time.
