Taking off oil filter cap
I have a 04 E320 and the oil filter cap will not budge.
First tries i did by hand. Do I need to use something more? It being plastic I did not want to force it. I will be changing my own oil in the next month and wanted to get a head's up Also, I noticed Peach parts has 5W40 synthetic oil and not the Euro blend this car calls for. Is that a dealer only oil??? L

OK, my statement about the oil was regarding Allparts and not peach.
However, i still am curious if anyone knows a good place to get that Euro blend oil? L

For the oil cap, I use a sliding jaw wrench with a shop towel to protect the plastic of the cap.
For oil, I'm assuming you mean Mobil 1 0W40. You can get this at most auto parts stores, as well as online (eg Amazon). |

They don't carry it at Advance Discount Auto parts which is why I asked.
Amazon carries it??? Now that is rich!! I saw there were 3 filters listed at Autopartsexpress. Mann Hengst Mahle All differently priced. Is there any difference in quality? Plus there is a listing for a whole kit. Is that something that should be done at particular intervals?? L

I've only ever used Mann and Hengst filters, but I believe all 3 are OE for at least some models. Not sure what the kit refers to, usually I get the required replacement o-rings in the box with the filter only.

Here is the kit description
Filter Assembly: Fleece Filter Mann 718/5x (OE), w/ Cap, Support, Seal Rings;Contains Filter, Top Cover, Support and 4 O-rings;Packing Size: PIECE; Here is the page link: http://www.allpartsexpress.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=2004-MERCEDES--BENZ-E3--0--/--V6_3.--l_11--.949-Engine&yearid=2004&makeid=MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&engineid=1440093%40%40E320++%2F+V6_3.2L_112.949%40%40E320&catid=Engine&subcatid=Oil%20Filter&mode=PA It has all the assembly so i was wondering if at a certain mileage or year this is a required change out L

Big adjustable wrench works for me with the oil caps, seems like no matter what you do it glues it self to the valve cover. Even keep a spare just incase i break it, plastic + age + heat =fragile when forced.

MB dealers sell/used to sell a large socket to fit the oil filter cap. Best to use the proper tool than risk damaging/destroying the oil filter cap.

I thought he meant oil FILLER cap, not oil FILTER cap. For the filter cap I use the MB socket tool as well. Sorry. |

The local Wal-Mart here had 0W40 Mobil 1 229.5 Oil the last time I was in there looking around AND the price was really good AIR $6.20 or so a quart. It was in the new Mobil 1 Bottles also. They had Fram filters for about $11 (with the O rings in the box).

maybe I can get them to get it in if it is in their system computers. I saw that tool poking around online but can't seem to remember where now. L

Yes, use the special tool. Then you can apply the proper torque when reinstalling as well.
Acceptable Mobil 1 oils are European Formula 0W-40 (229.5) Formula M ESP 5W-40 (229.51) made for diesels but works in all

I would rather use an old sock than Fram filters, The worst fu**ing piece of s**t filters ever made. Hengst is my first choice.
