Wink 92 300CE Problem; starting and running

My 92 300CE is affected negatively by moisture. After a hard rain, it may be difficult or impossible to start, and then after starting -- if there has been a recent rain, it may start to run rough and then stall after reaching normal operating temps.

What connections or unit can cause these failures, which are linked to wet conditions only?

Thanks for any ideas or solutions. Ben Carter

Ignition issues including; cap, rotor, wires, & coil are the most common problems under those conditions.

The most common

problem with damp starting and running issues is a cracked distributor cap. May be very hard to see. Look carefully and also look for carbon tracking inside the cap.

Wink Where is distributor on the 300CE??

I think I have a solid state electronic ignition, but if there is a distributor cap -- where is it on the car? I know there are several electronic modules just behind the battery, but which one controls the spark -- The Engine control module, or another one?

Thanks for the help ..... Ben Carter

All 103 engines have distributors. The distributor is at the front of the engine behind a black plastic cover. Very easy to replace. The KE Jetronic fuel injection control is one of the boxes you see behind the battery. The EZL ignition control is a flat module on the driver wheelhouse. The ignition timing is controlled electronically via this module. That's the only "solid state" part of the ignition system.
