M103 w124 no start; swapping EZL

My son's 1988 300ce died again in LA. Indie says EZL, after replacing 2 fuel pumps and fuel filter ($650) 3 weeks ago, and after dealer had replaced ignition coil 5 weeks ago; all because car refused to start on each occasion and had to be towed. After each repair the car worked, but every time it soon refused to start. The crank has always been strong and battery is only 3 years old. Anyway, ezl in the 1988 300ce is 0085456232, a Bosch unit (008=Bosch?). My 1989 300ce parts car has ezl 0065457632, a Siemens unit (006=Siemens?). I went to the dealer to check interchangeability, and according to the EPC the following ezl numbers are interchangeable:
0065457632
0085456232
0065457432
0085456432.

Hope this helps someone.

Just for followup, with the swapped ezl the car now starts fine, idles smoother and runs better.

Try changing the fuel pump relay first. It can case a no start situation when it goes bad. Also did you make sure the alternator works properly?

richard28, local indie says routine maintenance/replacement of the distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plugs and ignition wires prevents premature failure of the ignition control unit (EZL).
