infared key not active
 

cannot figure. infared key will not lock - unlock. in the middle of christmas shopping. Just stopped working. The battery is OK I had it checked out. I do remember double pressing transmitter to open trunck. after that kaput! the re-syncro steps outlined in the owners manual have been followed - but no joy. 1996 E-320. Any thoughts. Please advise. Jack

Mine would not re synch using the manual's instructions; the dealer said to use a different procedure and it worked. I am sorry I do not remember it for sure, but it seems they told me to simply put the key in the driver door lock and hold the button down while turning it twice in the same direction (forgot which). If this doesn't work, you may get a better answer at 1-800-FOR-MERC.

I've had that happen with my SL's key remote. Even though the batteries were OK, they were not making solid contact.

I could get the keyless entry to work with the battery flip door off because I was applying pressure with my thumb. When I put the battery door back on, it would not respond!

So I adjusted the contacts in the battery compartments and it worked (after I re-sync'ed the unit with the car).
