Changing Fuel Distributor on 300E

I have two spare fuel distributors, one is from a 1990 300E and the other from a 1987 300e. My car is an 1989 300E, i want to switch my distributor with the 90. My question is do I have to reset the Lamda, and what is that, the ECU??? I have the service manual on my computer and it seems that i just unscrew all the fittings and reattach. Seems easy enough, i didnt see anything for torque specs either. Is there more than meets the eye or is it really an easy DIY job??

replacing the part is about that easy (don't forget the seal under it). The fun part is adjusting the FI system for smooth operation.

The lambda feedback is provided by the black EHA module on the side. With it, the computer can compensate for lots of ills, but only if the physical components are actually working as intended. For instance, no vacuum leaks, correct fuel pressure, clean component passages, correct setting for the air flap, properly working relays, unbroken wires. (Jeez that list just feels longer every time we write it.)

Alright so i dont have to reset anything? Also you say adjusting is fun, but i hate it especially when i dont have a gas analyser to see what i'm doing. The only adjustment im familiar with is the fuel/air mixture beside the fuel distributor i think its a torx screw. Other than that I dont know what else to adjust. Any suggestions on how to tune it properlly without a computer analyser?

That seal that CTH350 mentioned is a rubber O ring. I had to order a new one because when I tried to reuse the old one, it did not seat well.

Well you may have to depending on the comparison between the two. If the new one is in better condition, you may need to adjust the mixture a little leaner since it will be providing more fuel. Just double check to make sure the A/F mixture is 50% and leave it alone.

Is there any differences in ECU's which would effect things? 87,89, and 1990?

I wanted to say the 1990 and 1991 are open head design where the earlier cars had a different combustion chamber shape/size. So the EZL and ecu may be different.
