yes the alternator is also brand new just put in. I feel like something is preventing the alternator from powering up and charging.
|
how many of u have gotten more than 1 bad alternator?
|
there are two wires at least going to alternator.one large diameter and one very small [blue i think].the small one is the exciter wire and carries 12volts to the alternator when you start the car.it goes thru the batt idiot light on the dash.when you turn on key the batt light should be on because the terminal it connects to on alternator is ground when engine not turning it is carrying 12v to the alt.when you crank car engine it excites the windings and alt makes power.turn on key and see if batt light comes on,if not 1.bulb is blown,2.wire is not connected to alt,3.faulty alt.

Thank you Mr Poole for the help! took the band new rebuilt Mexican Bosch alternator back and it failed the bench test, will have another new rebuilt Mexican Bosch alternator tomorrow
|
I read once that 10% of rebuilt parts are bad, and that has been about accurate in my experience. And 100% of Philippino radiators...

"Mexican, Rebuilt Bosch Alternator"
When translated means:
"Spray (With New Silver Paint) and Pray" (that it doesn't Bounce/ReTurn) You may go through more than 5 with no resolution in sight.ESPECIALLY if buying from AZ,Etc. Before you hang the New reman ,make them "Load Test" it.(For Amperage). |
It probably only needed a regulator/brushes anyway. I have found Beck Arnley is pretty good for rebuild quality.

All that farting around for 2 days and it was the new rebuilt alternator, makes you wonder sometimes what the hell is going on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the suggestions, I feel better that I wasn't the only one that didnt think of the alternator being bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
+1 on the Mexican Bosch rebuilds - several years ago I went thru 3 rebuilt generators on my bug and never did get one that worked out of the box - eventually took a chance on a dusty, rusty old one which fortunately worked.
