220D glow plug relay location?
Still waiting on the darned Haynes manual to arrive... in the meantime, can anyone tell me where to find the glow plug relay on my 71 220D? What's the best way to test it?
Thanks! Chris cscmc1@eiu.edu |

220D GLOW PLUG RELAY
Chris;
Your car is not equipped with a glowplug relay from the factory. With the key, on pull the start knob about halfway out(you should see the dash lights dim)hold this position until the glowplug indicator on the dash glows then pull the knob to start. MF |

220D GLOW PLUG RELAY
Thanks for the info, Mike. I have tried pulling the start knob out, and the plug light does not light. I thought I'd check plugs and plug relay (if one existed). Guess I have my answer now! This car is one I just picked up for $25 off a used car dealer's back lot, and it needs lots of TLC. I got most of the electrical components working (lights, blower fan, etc...), but the plug light won't illuminate, nor will the starter turn over. The latter may be due to a bad connection at the battery -- I was using jumper cables and going directly to the starter connection, as the + battery lead had been removed. I have a replacement battery lead now, which I will try hooking up tonight.
Thanks again, Chris |
