Power window switch - is the knob removeable?

Ok here's the situation. My 1990 500sl has an electrically intact and working power window switch, however the knob is missing, and all that is left is a clear shaft that lights up at night.

I bought a used complete switch, and I wanted to know if the knob is removeable / transferable to my existing switch so I wont have to go and remove the entire center console, hvac / radio / etc just to swap the switch. I wanted to ask before I break the new switch.

Thanks,

George

yes all of the switches are replaceable, its not that complicated to remove center console, just lift the small carpet piece, there is just 1 bolt that you need to remove, then the wooden console lifts right up,you will need to apply the foot break, then the center plastic piece will lift up,and the console will lift and you will be able to remove it off around the shifter knob, then just pull the old switch up and out, wiggle it a bit, then just reverse the order, push in the old switch, then slide the wooden console back over shifter knob, then last push the plastic trim around shifter to finish the trim, then retighten the bolt, and place the small carpet piece back in place or the center sonsole glove compartment that you have.good luck

not on an r129

A/C controls and radio have to be removed, and there are bolts behind the a/c panel. It's one wood piece in an r129.

Have a look here:

I was wondering if could just remove the knob from the new switch, and attach it to my existing switch which is missing the knob.

George
