M104 tune up (parts list)

This is for a 1994 E320. I've never done a tune up on one of these cars, but I will be helping a friend do one very soon. It there a recommended parts list and DIY write up? I didn't see one.

There isn't much to a tune-up in this car, other than spark plugs and wires.

Is it running well? If so, plugs and if old enough, wires. Many of us just change wires with plugs as the plug-connector under the coils is critical and doesn't age well, plus you're already in there. No Bosch Platinums, do a search here for the correct plugs, I have been very happy with the NGK plugs. Bosch coppers are good also, even though the correct non-resistor plugs are either NLA or hard to find.

If not, you will want to do a search here for "code reader" and "arthur dalton", build the code-reader (cheap and easy) to check for any engine codes which should direct you in your maintenance.

All of the vacuum connections and lines should also be checked. There is a maintenance schedule in the owner's manual for other items that should be performed at the same time.

Thanks. She(owner) said that there is a slight hesitation when she accelerates to merge onto the interstate. Actually no code-reader is needed. It's built in, just count the blinks. I'll just do the plugs and wires and try some fuel injected cleaner. Check for codes and then move on from there. She hasn't mentioned CEL being on.

The built-in light is just for emissions-related codes, there are several others the most important of which is the engine management. It won't necessarily trigger a CEL just because there's a code stored in the one that has the built-in light, only certain failures and occurance frequency/quantity will trip the CEL.

But it's up to you, if it only has a slight hesitation you might just find that new plugs and plug connectors / wires will make it run perfectly. Can also be a slight vacuum leak but that usually affects idle also.

Is it a 14mm deep socket that is required to remove these plugs? Also, am I just popping off the wires?
