Question Who has info?

Good morning all.
Someone I know is selling his 1994 E320.Its a California car and the owner now lives in Northern Alberta.
I have no knowledge about this car and would like to know from the forum what to look for before I do buy it.
What's the standard engine?
Whats the average fuel economy?
Is it trouble free to some extent?
Is it high maintenance?

I would appreciate all info, since this car is more then a thousand miles away and I don't want to waste anyone's time.
This is the car....

Thanks so much!!
Big Dan

I have a S320 with same engine my mileage when trying is 28.5 hwy.Of course 20 in city. But my car is heavier. The engines are tough, what I have read on E Class is sensor problems sometimes.Like crank and cam sensors, and various things inside. But are replaceable. If you can do you own labor you can save a bundle.

Thanks again.

I was told that the wiring harness and heater core are problematic at times. Is this true?

What is the mileage? Are there service records? I would pay to have the car inspected by a independent specialist who knows these cars well. Headgaskets and wiring harness are common failure points on the M104 series engine. Check to see if they have ever been done or budget for their replacement in the future. If the car has ASR(traction control), make sure it is working correctly. ASR can be problematic and costly to make right. No heater core problems, perhaps you are thinking about the A/C evaporator? They are known to fail, but that doesn't mean yours is destined to. However, the evaporator replacement is a very costly and labour intensive repair. A search will bring up more info on what to look for.

Yes on the harnesses (plural). The A/C evaporator is the problem, not the heater.

Edit: Sorry mbzman, I didn't notice your response. Anyway, I second your comments.

Looks like a nice specimen! I have a '95 wagon and looked for a couple months for one until I landed on mine. So far so good. It's a real pleasure to drive on highway especially. Everything posted thus far is right-on from all I have learned. I second the idea of having a 'pro' go over it for you - could be money well spent...Good luck.
