Sticking speedo on 1994 C280

My speedo sticks on zero for a minute or two when first moving off. A suggestion is that in warmer climates( I'm in New Zealand and its summertime here) The zero pin gets sticky and doesn't release the needle straight away. The remedy, it is suggested is to clean the pin with isopropyl alcohol. My question is does the dash have to be removed or is the perspex cover over the dials able to be removed seperately.
On another issue how is the throttle kick-down adjusted. It seems unless I kick down really hard it is difficult to engage

The cluster needs to be removed. I cleaned the pins on ours only to have the problem return in a couple of years.
