Leaking from Outlet/Hose Nipple under Water Pump

Brand new to the world of MB, so all of this seems greek to me...

1992 190e 2.3

Today as I was adding coolant/trying to bleed the system, coolant started pouring out of what looks like a small nipple where a hose should go on the underside of the water pump. (@ 6 o'clock)

Problem is, I can't find a hose anywhere that would seem to connect to it.

Am I missing a hose?
Is this the wrong water pump?

Or is my pump shot?

Any help appreciated!

I think that's the weep hole. might need a new pump.....or buy a piece of tubing that will connect to that end, clamp it on with a hose clamp and then plug/seal the other end up.

Ok- "weep hole" allowed me to search the forums a little more accurately. Sounds like a new water pump is my solution.

Thanks for the term! It helped.

Right, they did come out with a small plastic hose that attaches to the nipple to keep coolant from running on to (I believe) the serp belt. Kind of a beeyatch to install it so I think hardly ever gets installed.

Interesting that the nipple exists. I'm not sure if my wp looks like that (mine is a Graf brand), but I would definitely get a long piece of tubing and disconnect the hose going into the fender and reconnect the longer hose there and run that to the nipple of the wp. That way you don't loose coolant and also it will extend the usage of your wp since its still functioning and the only problem is a leaking seal.

Jon, recommend buying a reconditioned water pump at your local MB dealer. You will need to give them your old "core".

If you order it from the dealer, the dealer will have a list of other parts required, which IIRC is the small hard plastic hose, a clamp and a bolt which holds the hose in place. Myself I would just order the pump and forget the other stuff. The installation makes little sense as far as how the hose is routed and where it gets clamped. It was poorly thought out.

Water pump weep hose

I agree when I last replaced the wp on my 91 300 e I bought the pump and the hose mod. I could not figure out how to intelligently install the hose so I put it in my parts bin
