i ran it in a 1989 300e from 152 to 216 before selling the car... i know i was a bit overdue....but we were selling it and gave the new owner a complete set of records...

i think I will use it again at this price.

How do you figure "same protection" between Mobil 1 synthetic ATF and Coastal semi-syn ATF?

Thumbs up

I would not extend the service intervals due to the fact it has syn in there.

There are plenty of benefits of syn, bobistheoilguy.com is the place for research.

At around $5/quart the price is good and I would probably go for it on cars with low trans capacity or that run hot.

I'm running 4+ATF valvoline synthetic- type III base oil and got it for $4.85/q. Looking at the development, they upped the additives to a Dextron III to get the extended life. Given that... I don't see a difference but change mine every 30k miles. Cannot stomach $10/ trans fluid.

As a rule of thumb, the synthetic oil is more resistant to oxidation and breakdown. It should last twice as long as regular transmission fluid for those issues.

Another consideration is contamination from clutch wear. With regular fluid the contaminant debris can be flushed out more often with quicker change intervals.

I've always used M1 ATF. Well, at least until the 722.6 came out...

The only observable claim I can make is the synthetic ATF gives much less of the neck-snapping cold shift than does conventional ATF. The trans more or less always feels warmed up, with a smooth, quick shift.

On my old 124.193 there was a system which softened shifts by providing additional vacuum to the transmission modulator until the engine coolant temperature reached 50 degrees Centigrade. After changing to M1 I had to disable this system because the trans would flare when the "softener" was active, but then act fine once the engine warmed up a bit.

So far none of the 772.3/.4 transmissions have blown up on M1, though I rather expect that would also be true on conventional ATF.
