Supercharger Belt Change
Car--2002 C230 Kompressor
Going to change both drive belts, accessory belt tensioner, supercharger belt tensioner pulley. Took a look last night for a dry run, pretty straight forward and lots of room to work once the air box is popped out. Accessory tensioner rotates easily (almost too easy) so that side looks like a piece of cake. The S/C tensioner looks like it needs to swing clockwise to release tension, but when i put the E8 (or was it E10??) socket on it it felt like i was turning the stud so i stopped. Can't find the job on Alldatadiy, spent a few hours doing searches on this and another MB forum, and even the EPC seems to have a lack of S/C info for the M111. Plent of info on the drive belt side--but it all starts with "remove supercharger belt" without addressing the tensioner. Feels like i'm overlooking the obvious--and hoping one of you can give me a "DOH" moment this morning!! Thanks in advance.

Perfect--90 minutes, new tensioners, pulleys and drive belt. SC belt was in good shape so i saved the new one. All other pulleys were solid. Tensioner pulleys must have been growling more than i thought, the difference in sound was very noticable.
That SC tensioner is a bit of a fooler--sure looks like rotating anti-clockwise would move it into the belt, but it slackens it. All said, relatively easy job with good results. Thanks again MBDOC!!

Old thread but applicable. HELP!
I'm going crazy trying to put a new SC belt tensioner on my 2002 C230. Got the old one off, but can't seem to get the bolt holes to lines up, especially the lower left (facing from the front) bolt. I'm wondering if I'm crazy, do I have it oriented right? Does the lettering face up? ie the Likens logo? I know I did it once before, but damn, there is no room to get my fingers in there to attach the bolts. And damn, I dropped the pulley nut somewhere inside the engine. Arrgh! HELP!

Finally got it.
Gawd, I spend many hours combined in an uncomfortable position trying to get the bolts to thread. Looking at the factory service DVD or, WIS, they seemed to think it's necessary to remove the fan to do this, but finally I just took the bolts out that hold the rad in place, and pushed it back a bit to get some more room. Seemed to do the trick, got all 3 bolts to thread. Then putting the belt on was a bit traumatic (With ASP pulley). Finally, instead of trying to get it on the way, while holding the tensioner with breaker bar at full left, I hooked it in, with just a bit undone on the bottom of the crank pulley, let the tensioner go, and then turned the crank to get the belt on the rest of the way. Repositioned a bit on the alternator, and finally good to go. Arrgh. Hours. I must be getting old. No more horrible rattling noise on startup, but still have a squeak. Might be on the other belt? Maybe a little Wd40 on the pulleys to see if it goes away?
