oscargav, our daughter's 1991 300CE's engine suddenly shut down while she was driving 60mph on a local expressway. Turned out the coil had failed. Hope your problem is that simple.

If you suspect the absence of spark, you obviously need to check for spark.

This is the tool you need to check for spark. It is fairly cheap but very useful. I use it to check for spark in lawn mowers.

Lee, a 1991 300CE has only 1 coil (mounted on the left front inner fender). That 104 engine is not like the 1994 & 1995 104 engines with the 3 coil packs atop the spark plugs.

For whatever reasons, the EZL's (ignition modules) on the early M104 (m103.5) engine die more often than any other car from the era. Plus they are a 1 year only ignition module so they are 10x the cost of a standard M103 EZL. Make sure you have spark coming from the EZL.

EZL

The EZL failed on my 92-300CE, it was a little over $1,000 about three years ago.

Ouch! I wonder why this is? The M103 was already a high revver, and the M104 CIS revved to nearly 8000?

oscargav 03-09-2011 09:42 PM

How can I do that?

Thank you for Your help. I would like to know if YOu can tell me how can I check is the spark is coming from the EZL...

I already change the coil. and my car still not start. a friend told me that the alarm system could be the problem. My car has installed a Viper 350HV.

How about FIRST you determine whether or not you have spark to the plug. THEN you worry about why. What makes you think you have no spark? What kind of tests are you performing?

oscargav 03-09-2011 10:08 PM

I insert a metal into the cable (like a screw driver) and I try to start my car, You must feel some impulses if the spark is there. I did that with may other cars and it works. im based on that. im not a mechanic but im try to fix my car.
