sunroof issue 1989 300SE

Hi guys, my grandma died and I have her car to sell its a 1989 300SE in very very good condition with 107k and meticulously maintained.

The sunroof is electric, and the air dam? (the black flap that points up when the sunroof opens) does not go all the way down when the sunroof begins to close. THe sunroof gets jammed on the flap. Is there a way to adjust this so it lowers in time to slip into the sunroof like its supposed too? THanks!!

sunroof

don't want to be negative..

....but why don't you just sell it with the minor issue... shouldn't really affect price much.

most on this board are reluctant to deal with sunroof issues...or we just don't have experience

the air dam is spring loaded. When the sunroof slides forward, the actual roof pushes down on the tabs, lowering the air dam. You kinda have to see how it works to understand it.

Its probably dry, and needs a good lube. Look very closely for any small broken pieces of plastic, but beware, sunroofs on the w124/126 are amazingly complex, and difficult to work on.

I had a similar issue years ago, and a bit if lithium grease resolved it.

Good luck, and post some pictures when the problem is resolved.

i dont think grandma used the sunroof at all, so some lube may work. I understand how the mechanism works, and it seems as if there are adjusment screws. i wont mess with them, but i will definitly use the lube. thanks.

markho, MB makes a special lubricant for the sunroof mechanism. Recommend using that instead of a generic lubricant.

markho, sunroof adjustments require experience and skill due to the mechanical complexity. Recommend checking in your area for an indie who has both and is willing to work on the 1989 300SE sunroof. Ask for a repair estimate before leaving the car for service.

If you cannot find a competent indie to handle the adjustment a local MB dealer will be able to get it working properly.
