190e Cosworth Rod Bearing Widths
Hi there,
I am at the stage of rebuilding my single row 190e 2.3 16v and have found that I have two different sets of rods, etc. - almost. I only have three of one set. That said I am using the set of 4 and they have rods with studs and nuts, as opposed to bolts. The bearing surfaces of these rods are wider than the Glyco bearings that I bought. I can't find any split or other rod bearings listed. I do have an old rod bearing. It has a number on it "110 2110" Does anyone have any idea what is going on with this? Thank you. |

From what I can see, the Cosworth version kept the same con rods as the standard.
Why are you not reusing the existing rods anyway?

Early "euro" versions had different rods.
What year car & is it a USA version?

The car is a 1985 grey market 2.3 16. The timing chain broke miles after I bought it and ruined at least one piston, the crank, etc.
I bought a short block (maybe with a head - I can't remember) with rods and crank journals are significantly wider. See pics here: http://www.ferraricraft.com/2011/03/mercedes-cosworth-con-rod-dundrum/ Note the tab on the rod bearings are fully outboard rather than slightly inboard on the narrow rod motor. I haven't found wider rod bearings yet. Bill |
