EMERGENCY 190D Trunk Issue - lock barrel stuck
Hello all,
First time posting on this forum. I must admit, my blood runs with VW diesel (of the mk2 variety), but I've had the privilege of borrowing my friend's mid-80s 190D for the week. Love it - handles smooth and has plenty of power, though I know very little of it's over-engineered inner workings. Problem is, I locked all of my tools in the trunk without knowing that none of the locks work! The key locked the trunk just fine, but when I tried to unlock it, it just wouldn't budge. I have some work to do tomorrow so I'm desperately searching for a way to get the barrel to move with the key. If I can't coax it open, I need to try the next most reasonable method, short of cutting the trunk open. I attempted to search for answers, but none of them applied to my situation. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I need to access my tools real soon. Thanks in advance! - mike |

I think your only hope is too flood the lock tumbler with silicone spray, let it sit, spray again, and then hope it moves.
You are turning the key counter-clockwise to open the trunk. |

I am assuming that the central locks do not work?

Thanks for your responses...
I was thinking silicone or graphite spray would be a good place to start. And I tried looking for some kind of central locking button, but nothing I tried pressing helped. My guess is the whole system is shot. Locks on doors aren't as big of an issue in a town like Bloomington Indiana. The problem is when you drive to a sketchy town and don't want your belongings jacked! |
