seat belt extenders gone wild- 1993 300ce

After the recent rain, the car alarm started blarring, the overhead courtesy lights went on and the seat belt extenders, both sides, extended. My wife used teh key to quiet the alarm. The next day, I discovered the car would not start, even with a jump. I checked the fuses and found a blown one, in one of the lettered spots I don't remember now which one but I think was second or third one down, maybe for the seatbelts. I replaced it and the car started immediately. However, the extenders would not budge. I pushed the arms back inside their tracks, but they do not extend at all. What would have accounted for this? Any suggestions on getting the extenders working again? Thanks.
