CLK500 fuel smell in garage

My car has a gas smell. Any ideas what may cause this?

Where and when does it smell? From engine compartment, inside cabin etc.

seems to be engine compartment. Certainly not inside the car. Thanks!!

I went in the garage and sniffed around. Strongest smell from the left rear wheel arch. No smell in the car.

That is where the fuel pumps are located.

Thanks! I believe I need to remove the rear seat to have a look. Let me know if you have other information...
