If the timing is off the valves aren't fully closed on the compression stroke so the engine will never run. Why would you ever attempt to start the engine if the pistons hit the valves when rotating the engine manually? That condition will result in major damage.

Ferdman, I only tried to start the engine after I was able to do manual rotation by hand (2 complete revs). However, I am only able to do this when I set my exhaust dowel about 50-70 degs above the suggested dowel settings. Now as you may know, when I do this I don't have strong enough compression to start the car. Do you know any remedy to setting my timing chain right without hitting pistons and valves?. I made sure the cam adjuster is in retarded position as well but I still have valves & pistons interference. Please help if you know anything I might do to fix this problem |
