Replace seat springs/pad with foam?

I've been toying with this idea for quite some time.

I've done all the tricks with the pool noodles and seat support inserts..

Has anyone ever just outright replaced the spring cage with some sort of seat cushion foam?

It seems like something like this would sell pretty well (at least with us forum guys) I figure it would take a proper mold and some sort of foam mixture or something...but I think it could be done..I mean once the mold is made it should be fairly easy to produce a bit of them..

Any thoughts on this? I've always hated dealing with the springs and bounciness of these older MB seats. My best repair was on my gold SD, I got a bunch of carpet padding, packed it in layers and weaved a grid of steel cable to support it but that was nearly 10 years ago...

I believe the full foam cushions are Progressive foams with a varying density, from top to bottom least so it seems in some Asian cars.
Wonder. If the foam side supports will suffice in springing up a sagging seat bottom?

I just pulled the seats out of a 91. The innards are perfect. I'd watch the yards for a later model 126. You can always put your tex or leather on the new seat.

There is a 90 420SEL at the yard right now..has that red/maroon color interior. They seats were pretty darn comfy when I sat in them. Aside from the seat supports in the springs, is there any difference in the seats? foam over horsehair? etc?

Yes, '86+ have different wiring so they are not direct drop in for the '85 and older cars.

Correct. I transplanted the 2nd gen wiring harness and a set of seats in the green SD. A marginal improvement over the old green seats. I would really like to repack/repad the spring cage like I did on the gold SD.

The only mistake I made in that project was not installing the seat supports in the coils. I didnt know about them back then. i have them now..just havent put them in..

I dont have any more carpet padding though. It worked pretty well i must admit.
