I've done a lot of reading on what goes wrong with W124 and W201 AC. And i've seen alot of ways to fix the problem, which usually involves lots of $$$$. So, if i decide to buy the 88' 300E i'm looking at, and not fix the AC, can the lack of a properly functioning climate controll system cause terrible problems? Other than the fact that during a few days in the summer here in Seattle, i'll be a little uncomfortable, are there any other cons to not having AC? Can mold or mildew form because of excess humidity? I need to convince my parents that buying a perfect 300E (other than the broken AC) is still a good choice! My dad is concerned. HELP!!

I purchased my '88 300E without the AC working. Knowing what I do now, I would still purchase the car. It gets very hot here in Atlanta during the summer, but I just open the sun roof, lower the windows and keep going. If I can stand the heat in Atlanta, you should be fine in Seattle. Other than the comfort factor, I can not see any adverse impact without a functioning AC. Good luck.

I bought my 87 300TD knowing the AC was not working. But I am in Michigan.

I had a mildew problem in my sold 90 300E with a working AC. Every time I used the AC, the smell was bad form the vents. I used these anti-bacterial spays (Lysol?) often on it. If I did not use the AC, then there was no bad smell. So there is one advantage of having no AC.

I guess I could have the AC looked on (the previous opwner told me the expensive hydraulic hose was leaking) but I think it will stay in its non-working condition.
