W126 roof area leak that I can not locate...
Ok, some time after buying my 560 SEL I noticed a slight leak. Its been getting worse. So after putting up with it for a few months I decided to dive into it. I took the head liner front panel down to check the moonroof for leaks and found none. Previously and even during this test I poured water into the tracks with it open to see if I could make it leak. Nothing. So I set a hose on top the car, cranked the water up and sat inside. After some time I found several very small leaks around the windshield. But the locations did not add up. My leak will form between the front headliner piece (where the vanity mirrors mount) and the A pillar cover.
But I decided to take all the trim off the windshield and re-seal it. Happy that the horrible shape of the gasket was indeed the problem, I was content in mind that I had solved the issue. Until a storm yesterday.
The leak appears to be the same. It does pronounce itself when cornering like before and the flow of water seems the same. I attached a pict to show where it leaks. Some leaks out of the top and then will follow downward along the a-pillar cover. And some leaks out the bottom. I check the dor seals and they are fine. I also pulled off the cloth-rubber inner door seal and like before, not water along there.
I guess I can only assume its the moon-roof that is the cause, but from all appearances it appears not. Any ideas? I keep her garaged every night, but I still worry about any water damage/rusting that may occur as this water makes its way through the inside.
