New Transmission Questions
OK! How's everyone doing?
Today I picked up my 1991 300E from the transmission shop after having the trany remanufactered (every movable part was replaced). I lost reverse about a month ago which from everything I learned from the forum is a predictable problem for a car with 200K miles on it. Driving home from the shop, I noticed that the car would shift into the next gear (first to second, second to third, etc.) at about 3000 RPM. Is this a little high? I would shift at a lower RPM if I ease off the gas pedal. The shifts in all gears are smooth but occur at this high RPM. I'm bringing the car back on Monday. It's got a 2 year 24K mile warrenty on the work. What should I be asking them or looking for? Thanks, Nick |
Probably just needs a Bowden cable adjustment, the cable that attaches to the throttle linkage. Or maybe a modulator valve adjustment. Both very simple to do.

Thanks DG!
I will mention it to the shop on Monday Nick |
If it has a "Bowden Cable" control on it, that is all that needs adjusting. Modulator valve only controls how it feels, smooth and easy or faster and a little harsh, and the later is better for the transmission.
