air pump bearings
I am told that I need to have the bearings on the air pump on my 1990 420SEL. Is there a kit available to do this and can the average person replace the bearings? Also, are there any special tools needed?
thanks, mmason |

If it is the clutch bearings, you have to replace the clutch assy.
You should be able to do it, but you will have to take off the belt and the pump in most cases. Special tools are required to remove the fan (to get the belt off) and to remove the nut on the air pump.

Just unplug the clutch. Seriously, who needs that thing anyway? UNLESS, it's the pulley wheel itself causing noise even when the clutch is disengaged and the pump is "freewheeling".
