M110 weight?
Hi all,
I'm thinking of removing the M110 from my coupe as I need to change the auto trans and would like to clean the engine bay as well (the PO spraed waxoyl literally everywhere an inch thick, I'm cleaning it all off but can't get to the firewall behind the engine). Machine mart over here have a sale on at the moment so I thought I might buy an engine hoist and load leveler. Anyone know how much the M110 engine weighs? Just wondering as I want to get a hoist that can handle it. Thanks Mike

Doesn't have to be exact, but a rough figure would help to know whether cranes I've seen are likely to be up to the job. Can't seem to see any info by googling.

Between 450 and 500 pounds, I believe.

Thanks, sounds like an average hoist will do. I'd seen posts where people said it was a light engine and also where people said it was a real heavyweight.
I guess it depends what you're used to working on...

All of the mercedes engines of that era tended to be fairly close in weight. From the lightest 4 cylinder to the heaviest v8 only about 100# difference. The v8s tended to be aluminum, the sixes and fours iron with aluminum heads.
