W124 Transmission Dipstick Question

hi guys.

i would like to know if the w124 transmission dipstick from a 722.4 transmission(dipstick cap color is black) should have a slight bend at the top. from the bottom up ,the dipstick is pretty straight with the exception of the top 5inches(cap area) which are slightly bent.

im not sure how to explain the problem, but here goes:

the bend in the ATF dipstick seems to affect my readings. when the bend in the dipstick is aligned with the bend in the dipstick tube i get one reading(A in illustration), when i put the ATF dipstick with its bend going against the bend in the dipstick tube(B), i get a higher ATF reading(discrepancy is almost a 1/4")

i'm not sure which reading is correct. any suggestions?

thanks

Mine is straight. To affect a reading that much its gotta be pretty dang bent!

Hey ps2cho, thanks for the info. hope you get your transmission governor issue straightened out soon.

if you or perhaps some other kind forum member gets around to it , could you please measure the dipstick length to the full mark and post it here, i would really appreciate it. i am not sure why the dipstick is bent, nor do I know to what degree, but if someone posts the measurement, i plan on attempting to straighten it out.

one other thing i noticed, is that when i first pull out the ATFdipstick and wipe it down, it leaves behind a light-gray residue on my rag, all subsequent readings are without the light-gray residue, just clean ATF. is this normal?

thanks
