bilstein h.d. shocks- questions-suggestions

hello
i more time [please!] for us "challenged" or "thick-headed"
members at m.b.shop

i have a '92 300e with 108,000 miles. i want to tighten up or stiffen the handling of it. there is no-way i'm getting sport line springs etc. [ i just can't justify the cost]

SO, keeping my original springs i am planning on getting the bilstein h.d. shocks all around. from what i understand, this should tighten up the handling and "maybe" lower the car very slightly. is this correct??

i [think] read somewhere here i "may"also need to change spring pads because the rear of the car MAY be lower to where it looks out of proportion? is this true or just a tale?

i realize we've discussed this over and over, one more time PLEASE.

thanks

peter

I went to Bilstein H.D. shocks on my 450 sl, and I don't think it changed anything as far as lowering the car. I didn't notice anything and the mechanic didn't say anything about it. The old shocks were original and very worn out at 100,000 miles when I got the car, so I can't compare it to the original ride, but the shocks are great; very tight but not too hard. I was told the sport shocks would be too hard riding.

Exclamation I have HD Bilsteins

I was trying to keep my original springs but, the HD's raised the front a couple of inches. The rear was not too bad but, the rear was lower than the front.
I end up buying used HR's, less than 4 months old, from a member in this forum. Thank you!
I like the way my car looks now with 1 bump spring pads at front and 3 bumps at the rear. The Bilsteins sports are shorter and for what I read, some people had problems (too low) with the HR's and the sports combination.
If you want to keep your springs, the comforts may be a better choice with 1/3 spring pads.
Good luck!
