124 Electical Gremlins

Hello All,

new to the forum, I'm Luke and I live in the Canary Islands (Spanish administered small chain of Islands off the coast of Morroco). I have a 1994 300TE and my wife has a 1996 C180 Elegance.

I have a query I hope someone can help with.

A few days ago my ASD light came on along with some interesting side effects. When I press the brake pedal, I get a rapid clicking from the multi function relay box, the seatbelt warning light comes on for a few seconds and the fuel, oil pressure, temperature guages and the tachometer all fall to zero. Plus the brake lights no longer work.

I have done a diagnostic and it tells me that it is fault 8 which is 'faulty brake switch or faulty magnetic switch'. I have replaced the brake switch with new but the problem is still there.

Any ideas anyone, could it be the overvoltage relay?

Many thanks in advance.

Luke

Sure sounds like a voltage supply issue, both of those cars use an overvoltage relay.

Most likely the same part number, you could try swapping them between the 2 cars.
