6.9L support

I'm currently starting work on a 6.9L (engine only) I've been to several web sites for engine gaskets, but only the 4.5L gaskets are available.does anyone have a source for engine gaskets? I have yet to contact MB, I was trying to avoid that. The engine ran when it was removed from the car 8+ years ago@ 138,00Km.After removing the valve covers and oil pan the internals look pretty good. The engine is the European version with the higher output and higher comp. I think it's worth the effort but I don't want continue if I can't find the gasket etc..I'd rather not disassemble it but the ocd in me tells me to check every tolerance before trusting it. Any suggestions?

try m-100.cc for the club, starmotorsny.com and buymbparts.biz (Rusty or Tom) for parts.

6.9L support

Thanks much for the response. No, not yet, as I mentioned I'm just getting started. I'll try all the suggestions once regular business hours resume.
thanks again

new 6.9 specific parts are ONLY sourced from two places... Rusty's and the classic center. There are no after-market parts. Only those two sources can supply new things like gaskets and the like.

For FI parts, and you will need those, most of the CIS parts are identical to any 3.5, 4.5, 3.8 or 5.0 before the days of the EHA and the frequency valves. Compare the ports on the fuel distributor with any used one you acquire and make sure it is plumbed with the same connections. If so, they're interchangeable.

One final word of warning, the things are not cheap and the prices will add up fast. For instance, the metal line that connects the fuel distributor to the UOR is thick in the middle and thin on the ends. That metal line is rubber lined to cut down on fuel pressure waves and is not at all cheap, but that rubber does decay, so you will need it eventually.

Search the site for advice on CIS, you'll find plenty, especially for things like rebuilding and repairing the fuel distributor and the WUR. A well adjusted 6.9 pulls like a passel of scalded cats. It's worth it.

Cats enjoy the prestige of a 6.9 more than any scalding.

Good luck with the rebuild, and please do photo document it. Such jobs seem rare these days.

You definitely have to keep us updated. I'm right next door in north aurora, and I'd love to see a 6.9 flying down deerpath.
