noticed hard down shifting at low speed, checked vac. connection at trans. and found proper connection to side of transmission but other end not connected (about 18" long) I would like to know where "loose end" should be connected.

I had a leak in my vacuum pipe but it was connected and it was the rubber boot at the engine end that was split. Mine's a M104 engine and the non-transmission end goes to the inlet manifold at the rear, left (looking forwards from the driving seat) of the engine. You might see a connection point waiting for the tube!

Good luck.
